In my several years of being involved in the wonderful field of higher education, I finally identified my true passion of helping others make better decisions based on them having as much up to date and accurate information as possible. My first encounter with higher education was when I decided to attend Kent State University upon graduating from McKinley Senior High in Canton, Ohio. I was not the typical 4-year graduate, however I did graduate on the extended plan with the help of a very knowledgeable advisor in the College of Arts of Sciences who determined an alternative way for me graduate prior to my plan.
I moved to Columbus, Ohio from my hometown, Canton, Ohio for increased employment opportunities. At the time I had no idea that I would pursue a graduate degree, but again with the assistance of a well-informed advisor at Franklin University, in Columbus, Ohio the process started. Due to the outstanding instruction of Franklin’s faculty and staff the thought entered my mind of becoming a member of that elite group of individuals. Before becoming a member of faculty at Franklin, I was employed as a member of their full-time staff in the Financial Aid Department. With the help of my mentor and colleagues that thought of being a college professor became reality. I started instructing a freshman level course however soon started to facilitate senior level courses in the Business Department. At that time is when the controversial field of ethics moved to the front of my thinking. I began to teach two courses: Business Ethics for Leaders and Organizational Behavior.
I later determined that I needed to have a Doctoral Degree to assist individuals in the manner that deemed to be very important to me. That thought results in me being currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Education Program focusing on Educational Leadership at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio which is allowing my the opportunity the research areas in the field of higher education as it relates to the members of management of institutions of higher learning and those individuals’ responsibility to make ethical decisions that impact, the student, school, the local community, global economy and the value of a post secondary education.
As I continue as a student, educator, mentor and administrator, I found it most important to start ALEGNA Consulting, Inc. for the purpose of helping individuals make better decisions in Education and Ethics sooner rather than later.
Graciously,
